Cathodic Protection
Solar electric systems are a reliable cost effective power source
for impressed current cathodic protection systems when conventional energy
sources are unavailable or difficult to access.
The use of solar systems allows the cathodic protection engineer
the flexibility to locate exactly the right amount of power at the precise
location it is required.
Matching the output of a PV system (typically from 12V or 24V
batteries) to the CP load is achieved through energy efficient, high frequency
pulse width modulation (PWM) impedance converters. The CP controllers are fully
automatic and will adjust the output against feedback from one or more of the
following parameters:
 |
output voltage;
|
 |
output current;
|
 |
reference cell.

Solapak Systems has been a leader in the supply of complete solar
electric systems for the cathodic protection of oil pipelines in the Middle East
and North Africa since the early 1980s. Our system design aims to provide years
of reliable, low maintenance and environmentally friendly operation.
A standard Solapak solar system comprises:
 |
Solar modules to generate
electricity; |
 |
Array structure to support
the solar modules; |
 |
Batteries to store the energy
to ensure continuous power to the load; |
 |
Charge controllers to
optimise the use of available energy, minimise maintenance and maximise
component lifetime; |
 |
Output cathodic protection controller to supply power to the protected structure; |
 |
Cables, hardware etc. to the point of use (the output of the CP
controller). |
In addition Solapak Systems offer:
 |
Wide range of system capacities and voltage; |
 |
Options for monitoring and metering system performance; |
 |
Choice of array mounting to ensure easy installation even for
the most difficult sites; |
 |
Selection of battery types and size to suit local conditions; |
 |
Standard GRP or thermally insulated battery boxes and equipment shelters; |
 |
A source of components for spare parts or to upgrade existing
sites; |
 |
Potential to hybridise with other energy sources to prolong
life and reduce operational costs; |
 |
Consultancy services to provide the client with independent
engineering design, contract management, inspection, training and on-site
commissioning. |
